Minnesota Skywarn Workshop
Saturday, April 5, 2008

I had the opportunity to attend the first workshop back in 2006, and I had a good time. There were several different groups of people there, from the general public, to Skywarn spotters, to storm chasers. Tim Samaras was the keynote speaker talking about his placement of probes in the path of tornadoes. The room was silent and glued to the screen during his presentation. He has some amazing footage. There was also several different NWS employees from several NWS offices giving talks.
This year, there will be speakers from the NWS, and the Twister Sisters (Peggy Willenberg & Melanie Metz) will be back. They will be discussing the only EF5 tornado ever recorded--the one that destroyed the town of Greensburg, KS on May 4, 2007. Some of their footage was shown on their show, "Twister Sisters" that aired on the WE Network this past fall. Also, Tim Marshall will be the keynote speaker. Tim is a well-known storm chaser and structural engineer that does damage assessments after tornadoes. He has been doing this for many years, and I'd bet he has some amazing footage.
Registration is open and the cost is $10. If you plan on going, you may want to register soon. Both times the workshop has been packed full to capacity. The agenda has also been posted on the workshop's website.
I'll be there.
