FCST: 5-6-08

A Slight Risk of severe weather has been painted over the southern 1/3 of MN for Tuesday, 5/6. The slight risk line comes almost up to the southern Isanti County line, but we are still looking at a small chance.

While Iowa has much better chances for severe wx, especially with dewpoints up into the 60's, followed by an approaching cold front, we have a chance to see some small hail. Tornado chances = slim and none (for our area).

After looking at this morning's model runs, I am a little confused as to why the SPC is still holding out on a slight risk for MN. I'm sure we'll have thunderstorms, but I don't think there will be many of the severe kind around here. If I had to pick a target right now, the closest one I'd pick for a chase would be Des Moines. There will also be severe weather further south, but I think we can rule it out in our area. Bummer! However, things change, and I'll check again tonight and tomorrow morning.

The latest SPC Day 2 Outlook has expanded the Slight Risk area farther north. It is the blue 15% line on the pic.
